Earth Traditions Introduction to Animism

Sunday July 13, 2025 7:00PM CDT On-Line Registration $75.00

Before animism, there was animismus (German), both terms coined in the 18th and 19th centuries. 'Animism' originates from the Latin anima meaning breath, life, or spirit. Paganism is older, first used in the 4th century however, many contemporary Pagans use this identifier to describe their spiritual path and it fits well under the “Pagan umbrella” that defines paganism today.

The tradition of animism is non-dogmatic and inclusive to people of diverse ancestries. It involves speaking directly with other-than-human beings that are physically present and with whom we share the planet, as well as those that exist outside of the confines and restrictions of the earth-bound, or human perception.

Animism is not a religion or a practice, it is a particular way of relating to the world, a method of finding the vital life force, the sentience in everything and engaging in personal experiences with it. It is knowing that even as we experience the essence of the world, the world is also experiencing us.

Wonder and awe are lost arts to many humans, but the enchantment of the world has never diminished. Animists have not lost the enchantment of the world; they reside within it; it runs through them. It is now, and it always has been a root, or source or something that goes beyond the gods, beyond “personifications,” it is abstract, beyond our ability to comprehend.

Join us for an interactive, discussion and presentation, as we explore the concept of sacred connection with our humanness, our planet, and our universe, and as we learn from the teachers that have been our source of information since the dawn of the human race.
